ជំរាបសួរ មិត្តភក្តិនិង គ្រួសារ!
Today we woke up to rain, which surprisingly is still coming down as we right this post 16 hours later. For the first time since arriving, we woke by alarm instead of Jetlag, and (classically) over slept, causing us to rush through breakfast and dressing in order to walk to Peace Cafe (About half an hour) for an 8:30 yoga class. We debated taking a $3 Tuk Tuk ride instead of walking, but decided to save the cash and get a little wet. The rain wasn’t coming down that hard.
After 5 minutes from PC, much like yesterday at JWOC, we were confused and somewhat lost. We ended up hopping in (another) $1 Tuk Tuk down the road. Ugh. But hey, better $1 than $3!
We arrived with about four minutes to spare. Perfect.
The yoga room was small, but cute. Not decorated, but certainly not ugly. Just simple. The instructor was an Indian man with a thick accent, but it was somehow easy to follow along. He repeated a lot of the same phrases “repeat five times,” “hold pose,” “observe breathe.” The class was supposed to go from 8:30 to 9:45, but we ended up meditating for a while afterwards, which resulted in a 10:25am dismissal. We didn’t mind, it was our day off so we had no where to be.
The view of Peace Cafe from the second floor. The cushions from the beds were all inside though because of the rain.
After yoga we ordered a drink and just sat, sipping and catching up on our journals (which we are both SUPER behind on. Ugh).
We worked up an appetite and ended up ordering lunch at around noon. We split a Khmer dish, which we forgot to right down, so we have no idea the name of. However, we do know that it was delicious. It was a peanut-y /coconut milk-y soup that came with brown rice to eat with it. We definitely see more of this in our future.
Once our minds were worked and our stomachs were full, we decided to take another shot at finding the famously cheap Angkor’s Sunshine B&B. Over the past couple days, the owner has been giving us better and better incentives to move there via email. Using the map sent to us with the “correct location,” we walked for about half an our in the mud on an extremely busy road. Motorcycles were swerving around us on both sides (somehow even when we were walking as far left as possible). Our shoes were slipping and sliding and breaking. Everyone that passed us laughed.
Looking back, it probably was quite comical.
We found it was quite classic that every time a Tuk Tuk pulled over and yelled “need Tuk Tuk, lady?” we were set on walking. Yet every time we were close to giving up and wishing for a ride, there were no Tuk Tuk’s in sight.
Anywho, we finally found the street, and, of course, no sign of the B&B. We were on a side road with mostly auto-shops and homes. Because of the rain, the unpaved clay road was almost impossible to walk on.
Geese!!
We have made up our minds that even if this place existed (which we now can only assume it doesn’t), the extra money we would save on rent would be nothing compared to the Tuk Tuk rides we would need to take us to and from JWOC. They also didn’t offer us breakfast.
After Tuk Tuking it back home, we washed up, dried up, and rested for a little while. Later in the evening we ended up splitting a plate of spaghetti (which strangely we have both been craving so much lately) at V&A and sat on their couches playing Yatzi with Sovan, Andrew, and two other awesome girls we have met here (one is named Sasha, which Sasha Beck is really excited about). Sasha is a fourth year student a LIU Global University, which is a wicked cool school where you spend all but one semester studying and learning all over the world (she was in Costa Rica, India, Turkey, Bali, China, and now Siem Reap). Needless to say she’s really really cool and we can’t wait to get to know her better. The other is Victoria who is currently halfway through one of her Co-op’s at Northeastern, she is equally as cool. Tonight is Andrew’s last night :(
Besides the people and food, we are also super happy to be here at V&A because of the 9 kittens that were born only 2 months ago. They have really cute names (Salad is our fav) and are super, super cuddly. Zack is slowly teaching Leah to like cats, but Charlie is seeming to counteract that productivity. We’ll see how it goes….
Leah with Sky and Zack in one arm and (trouble maker) Charlie on knee. Surprisingly they were all litter mates, even though Charlie is like double all the other one's size.
Little Sky, his cuteness isn't quite captured in the dark. We will have lots more in the future I'm sure!
Today was our one week mark from taking off at Logan Airport. Although we are obviously are missing our friends, family, and pets back home, we are loving this side of the world and the new friends and pets it is starting to give us.
With love,
Us
Hi to you both,
ReplyDeleteThe food does look good! Nice that you have decided to stay put. Just make sure you don't bring a cat back with you like Jane and Gretchen! Had to teach Aunt Kathy (over the phone) how to leave a comment. It seems all the comments she thought were not posting are all on Friday the 11th!
Love,
Grammy and Pepere
Hey you two - Great job on the blog. Thanks for keeping us so up to date. So glad you are off to a good start.
ReplyDeleteLove reading your blog and seeing the pictures. Thanks for taking the time to write! Leah remember you and I don't like cats...remember cute little kittens become annoying cats!

ReplyDeleteLove reading your blog; especially the pictures. Regarding your walk in the mud; maybe you two should buy boots !!.
